ATV / Snowmobiling

With more than 500 km of well-maintained trails, Kawartha Lakes is a an ATV user and snowmobiler's paradise. Restaurant parking lots full of snomobilers are a common sight in the winter as enthusiasts travel from village to village. Nearly every community has a dealership offering sales and service. Trail users must have a valid license and insurance and should respect both the trails and other riders.

Victoria Rail Trail - North Corridor
This 55-km trail originating in the Town of Lindsay follows the former CN Rail Line north to the Hamlet of Kinmount, then 32 km on to the Village of Haliburton. The trail passes through urban areas, farmland, natural settings and borders Sturgeon Lake, Cameron Lake, the Burnt River and the Somerville Tract County Forest. Historical sites include train stations in Fenelon Falls and Kinmount.

Victoria Rail Trail - South Corridor
This 30-km trail originates in the Town of Lindsay and follows the former CP Rail Line south to Dranoel Station, south of the Hamlet of Bethany. The trail progresses through farmlands into the natural areas of the Fleetwood Creek Valley bordered by the ski hills of the Bethany area.

Recommended Access Points

North Corridor

  • Lindsay: Thunderbridge Rd. north to Kinmount
  • Kinmount: Old Railway Station and Austin Saw Mill Waterfront Park

South Corridor

  • Lindsay: Logie Street near Scugog River
  • Bethany: Corner of Hwy. 7 and County Rd. 38

Permitted Uses

As stated in By-Law 2007-107, no person(s) is permitted on the Victoria Rail Trail Corridor from April 1st-April 30th. The Victoria Rail Trail is open to the public for recreational uses including, hiking, cycling, bird watching, horseback riding, dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ATVing.
