Reports to:  Registered Nurse

 Job Description:

  • Under the direction of the Registered Practical Nurses, is responsible for providing basic nursing care, personal assistance and behavioral supervision to residents;
  • Is responsible to perform manual maneuvering of residents on a daily basis in accordance with established policy;
  • Delivers restorative care by promoting independence in activities of daily living.
  • Is responsible for effective verbal and written communication with residents, family, staff and service providers
  • Is responsible to promote and support the Residents’ Bill of Rights and maintain Long Term Care standards and regulations.
  • Is responsible to work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and policies and procedures of the City and Victoria Manor; must be able to exercise sound judgment in maintaining a safe work environment;
  • Other related duties assigned.

Skills/Education Required: 

  • Must have a valid Personal Support Worker Certificate or completed their first year of BSCN degree;
  • Must be able to deal tactfully with sensitive situations and to exercise discretion, judgment, diplomacy,  confidentiality and privacy of resident information;
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with physically and cognitively impaired individuals and their families;
  • Must have excellent organizational and administrative skills and be able to work co-operatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment or independently;

Hours of Work:                     

  • Hours of work may be days, evenings, nights, (full & short shifts) in Victoria, Elford, Vaga and McMillan House, subject to change from time to time to meet operational requirements.  Accordingly, the employee must be willing and able to work weekdays and weekends, all shifts including days, afternoons, and nights, and in any of the four houses as assigned.
  • Must be available for up-to 30 hours per week, and willing to work 5 out of 8 week-ends.
