Reports to: Registered Nurse/Director of Care
Job Description:
- Practices as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, under the standards of the Ministry of Health, the College of Nurses of Ontario and the policies of the Home;
- Maintains knowledge of and promotes in all aspects of resident care the Resident Bill of Rights;
- Supervises, directs and assists the Personal Support Workers in the provision of personal care;
- Provides nursing service at the level of skill compatible with the RPN scope of practice; responsible for behavioral supervision of residents;
- Assesses the needs of residents and organizes for the provision of resident care under the direction of the Registered Nurse;
- Participates in the preparation of resident care plans;
- Maintains effective communication and good interpersonal relations with medical and allied health care staff, management, residents, families, and other departments;
- Assists in implementing and enforcing facility and departmental policies;
- Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, maintains the safekeeping of all drugs and prescribed treatments on the unit; administers drugs and treatments according to procedure;
- Supports and actively participates in orientation, in-service programs and other staff development;
- Assists the Director of Care in evaluating the performance of Personal Support Workers; informs the Registered Nurse of staff performance issues;
- Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, participates in quality improvement and risk management, including leadership of initiatives as assigned; conducts ongoing audits for effectiveness;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Education Required:
- Must possess and maintain a current Certificate of Competence as an RPN issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Must have successfully completed an Administration of Medications for RPN course;
- Able to deal tactfully and effectively with aged individuals and their families;
- Demonstrated customer-service skills;
- Must be able to work co-operatively with co-workers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Hours of Work:
- Shifts are subject to change;
- Overtime may be required;
- Weekend work is involved;
- Must be willing to work day, evening and night shifts as assigned.
