Reports to: Supervisor, Development Engineering
Job Description:
- Coordinate the review and approval of planning applications and development proposals within the City;
- Coordinate engineering consultants engaged on municipal and development projects. Review work from a technical perspective to ensure that design, budget, cost estimate, and tender documents are complete and meet engineering, provincial, and municipal standards;
- Coordinate, manage, and review the preparation of master drainage plans, sub watershed studies, sanitary and water system models;
- Responsible for preparation of cost estimates for input into the Capital budget;
- Assist in the preparation and administration of the current budget for the section;
- Responsible for the project cost estimate, design, cost control, record keeping and scheduling of all work for the delivery of municipal projects within assigned time deadlines;
- Prepare and oversee environmental assessments on assigned projects;
- Prepare reports for City Council relating to various engineering issues;
- Accountable for the financial control of all projects, including related reporting, documentation, account set-up, and closure, and which may include some or all of local improvements, special grants, subsidies, donations and City financing;
- Monitor, evaluate and recommend use of emerging practices and technologies and other improvements;
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints. Record and investigate and recommend follow-up action;
- Other similar duties as assigned.
Skills / Educational Required:
- Post secondary Diploma (typically a 3 year program) in Civil Engineering;
- Must have or be eligible for the OACETT designation (Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists);
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in a municipal engineering related field;
- Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures and legislation related to civil engineering;
- Excellent oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, consultants, contractors, developers, staff, Council and senior management;
- Excellent written communication skills; attention-to-detail and accuracy a must;
- Ability to exercise discretion and tact;
- Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work load and meet deadlines effectively;
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Land Development, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite software;
- Proficient in Total Station Surveys and layout;
- Experience in WaterCAD and SewerCAD would be an asset;
- Valid `G’ Driver’s License for the Province of Ontario.
