2010 Municipal Elections - Notice

NOMINATION FOR OFFICE Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (s. 32)

NOTICE is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of the City of Kawartha Lakes.

MUNICIPAL ELECTION DAY – MONDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2010.

Nominations in the City of Kawartha Lakes for the offices set out below may be made by completing and filing in the office of the Clerk of the municipality so noted, nominations on the prescribed form.

COUNCIL

Mayor  - elected by general vote (city-wide)

Councillor - sixteen Councillors to be elected, one from each of the 16 wards.

Nominations for the above offices are to be filed in person, or by an agent, with the Clerk of the City of Kawartha Lakes, at City Hall, 26 Francis Street, Lindsay, Ontario.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE SCHOOL BOARDS

Trillium Lakelands District School Board

Five trustees to be elected, one from each of the following geographic areas within the City of Kawartha Lakes:

One trustee to represent Wards 1, 4 and 8

One trustee to represent Wards 2, 3, 6 and 7

One trustee to represent Wards 13, 14 and 15

One trustee to represent Wards 5, 9 and 11

One trustee to represent Wards 10, 12 and 16

Nominations for the above offices are to be filed in person, or by an agent, with the Clerk of the City of Kawartha Lakes, at City Hall, 26 Francis Street, Lindsay, Ontario.

Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board

One trustee to be elected to represent the geographical area of the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Nominations for the above office are to be filed in person, or by an agent, with the Clerk of the City of Kawartha Lakes, at City Hall, 26 Francis Street, Lindsay, Ontario.

FRENCH LANGUAGE SCHOOL BOARDS

Conseiller(er), le Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Quest

One trustee to be elected to represent Sector 1 – Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Northumberland, Peterborough, and Durham

Nominations for the above office are to be filed in person, or by an agent, with the Clerk of the City of Oshawa, 50 Centre Street South, Oshawa, Ontario, or with a delegated Clerk.

Conseiller(er), Conseil scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud

One trustee to be elected to represent Region 12 – Kawartha Lakes City, Northumberland-Clarington-Peterborough

Nominations for the above office are to be filed in person, or by an agent, with the Clerk of the Municipality of Clarington, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, Ontario or with a delegated Clerk.

Nominations Procedures:

  • A nomination must be signed by the candidate and may be filed by a candidate or by an agent in person on any day before September 10th, 2010 during regular business hours (City of Kawartha Lakes Office Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday).
  • On September 10th, 2010 (Nomination Day) nominations may be filed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. only.

Nomination filing fees:

  • All nomination fees must be in cash, certified cheque or money order.
  • A prescribed nomination-filing fee of $200.00 must accompany the nomination form for the office of Mayor.
  • A prescribed nomination-filing fee of $100.00 must accompany the nomination form for the office of Councillor or School Trustee.
  • The fee is refundable if the candidate receives more than 2% of the votes cast for the office or withdraws the nomination under Section 36 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended.
  • A nomination must be certified by the Clerk before such person becomes a certified candidate for the office to which she or he is nominated.

In the event that there is an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only, on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk as set out above.

Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said offices, voting will take place on the dates stated below.

The 2010 Municipal Election will be conducted using a mail-in ballot.  Information will be provided to electors regarding the Election Process at a later date.
