You can vote if you are:
- a Canadian citizen; and
- at least 18 years old; and
- a resident in the City of Kawartha Lakes; or
- a non-resident of the City of Kawartha Lakes, but you or your spouse own or rent property in the City; and
- are not prohibited from voting under any law
You may only vote once in the City of Kawartha Lakes' municipal election regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the city. If you live in the city and own or rent more than one property, you must vote in the ward where you live.
The voters' list is a list of eligible electors in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for preparing the preliminary list of electors for each municipality and school board during an election year. MPAC's 'Municipal Property Assessment database' is a comprehensive list of both property owners and tenants which is used to prepare this preliminary list. The preliminary list of electors aids the Kawartha Lakes Election Office in the preparation of the final voters' list for the Election.
In April/May, MPAC will send out assessment notices to all residents. Please fill out and return these to MPAC as this information is used in the creation of the voters’ list.
Being on the voters' list ensures that you will receive your ballot kit. In September, residents may inquire through one of the City of Kawartha Lakes Service Centres if their name is on the voters’ list, and if the mailing information is accurate.
The 2014 voter's list will be available beginning September 2, 2014.
