City of Kawartha Lakes 2010 Municipal By-Election For Ward 7

Welcome to the official website for the City of Kawartha Lakes 2010 municipal by-election for Ward 7.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Municipal By-Election for Ward 7 will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010.

For information on qualifications of a candidate and other general municipal election information.

The City Clerk is responsible for conducting the municipal by-election for Ward 7.

Eligible voters in Ward 7 will have the opportunity to vote to fill the vacant Councillor seat in Ward 7.  The successful candidate will serve the remainder of the current term of Council ending November 30, 2010.

Nomination Period

Nomination Papers may be filed by candidates (or their agent) prior to Nomination Day at the City Clerk’s Office, 26 Francis Street, Lindsay during normal office hours – Monday to Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Friday, December 11, 2009

Nomination Day

Last day for filing a nomination paper for the By-Election.  Nomination papers may be filed on Nomination Day at the City Clerk’s Office from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 to Thursday, March 11, 2010

Campaign Period

The campaign period begins on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, or whenever a candidate files the nomination paper (whichever is later) and ends on Thursday, March 11, 2010, unless the candidate withdraws the nomination, the City Clerk rejects the nomination or the candidate is continuing his or her campaign to erase a deficit

Voters’ List Available

The Voters’ List for Ward 7 is available, where requested in writing by the candidate, for pick up by registered candidates at the City of Kawartha Lakes Municipal By-Election Office.

Revision Period

An eligible voter whose name is not on the Voters’ List or whose name or address are shown incorrectly on the List may be added to the Voters’ List or have the information on the List amended by filing an application with the Clerk’s Office or the Bobcaygeon Municipal Service Centre.

Return Completed Ward 7 Ballot Kit by Mail

Ward 7 Voters should return their completed voter kits by mail any time between the date of receipt and January 20, 2010 – after January 20, 2010 they should be hand delivered to the Bobcaygeon Municipal Service Centre or to the Election Office at City Hall, Lindsay

Return Completed Ballot Kit in Person

Ward 7 Voters should NOT place completed ballot kits in the mail after January 20th.  Between receipt of the Ballot Kit and 8:00 p.m. on January 25, 2010, you can drop off a completed ballot kit at the Bobcaygeon Municipal Service Centre.

 

Completed ballot kits can be dropped off at City Hall until 4:30 p.m. on  Friday, January 22, 2010.

By-Election Day

On January 25, 2010, you can drop off a completed Ward 7 ballot kit at the Bobcaygeon Municipal Service Centre until 8:00 p.m.  This will be the only location on this day for ballot kit drop-offs.

End of Campaign Period

The end of the Campaign Period (for the by-election) is March 11, 2010, unless a candidate withdraws his or her nomination, the nomination is rejected by the City Clerk or the candidate is continuing his or her campaign to erase a deficit.  Candidates may not raise funds or incur expenditures beyond this date unless they have a deficit and have notified the City Clerk of the extension to the campaign period.

Notification to the City Clerk of a Deficit and Continuation of the Campaign Period

If a candidate has a deficit on March 11, 2010 and wishes to continue fundraising to eliminate the deficit, the candidate must notify the Clerk on the prescribed form on or before 5:00 p.m. on March 11, 2010.  Failure to do so will mean that the campaign period ends on March 11, 2010.
