Background Information
Council of the City of Kawartha Lakes has identified the development of an Agriculture Action Plan for Kawartha Lakes as a Strategic Priority for this term. This project is supported by the Agriculture Development Advisory Board and the Victoria Haliburton Federation of Agriculture, with additional funding support by FedDev Southern Ontario and the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation.

- Communication of the initiation of the project (Fall 2009)

- Survey distribution – hard copy and web-survey versions

- Contract Consultant to Deliver Workshop/Develop Action Plan Draft
- Invite participants for workshop – broad industry invitation through media and organizations/businesses plus directed personal invitations to ensure coverage of all sectors of industry
- Host Workshop (February 18, 2010) lead by consultant to develop vision and initiatives for long term sustainability of agriculture
- Consultant uses results of workshop discussion to formulate a draft Ag Action Plan Document
- Draft Action Plan reviewed and refined by Steering Committee
- Public Meeting held to present draft document and solicit additional items or refinements
- Final draft received by Steering Committee and upon acceptance is presented to Council and VHFA Board (Spring 2010)
- Public Presentations of CKL Ag Action Plan

- Projects identified with immediate priorities are funded and initiated
GOAL: TO DEVELOP AN AGRICULTURAL ACTION PLAN FOR KAWARTHA LAKES TO SUPPORT AGRICULTURALLY-BASED BUSINESSES AND ORGANIZATIONS
Thank you for participating in the City of Kawartha Lakes Agricultural Action Plan project. The results of the surveys and strategic planning workshop will assist the Steering Committee in developing a vision and Agricultural Action Plan for Kawartha Lakes. Your suggestions and feedback contribute to the strategic planning process to be undertaken by the entire agri-food community.
New initiatives may include development of appropriate policies, resources, services, educational programs and materials in support of current agri-food business and new business partnerships and opportunities within the region.
The Agricultural Development Office is coordinating this project on behalf of the Agricultural Action Plan Steering Committee.
