The City of Kawartha Lakes was created on January 1, 2001 by the amalgamation of the 18 former local municipalities in Victoria County. A Transition Board, made up of provincially appointed local citizens, oversaw the amalgamation process.
There is a growing interest in the City of Kawartha Lakes, because of the available infrastructure and proximity to Toronto, one of North America’s mega cities (5.2 million people). Just over an hour northeast of Toronto, we are a remarkable community of charming places, set against a backdrop of magnificent natural splendour. We offer a four-season celebration of the best recreational, cultural, and economic possibilities that life has to offer.
There are many incentives to locating your business in the City of Kawartha Lakes. These incentives include comparatively low municipal taxes, cost of labour and cost of land. We also offer higher rates of staff retention, wage subsidy programs and reduced cost of living compared to major urban centers.
