Canada Post Community Mailboxes Coming To Kawartha Lakes
The move is part of a strategy by Canada Post to return to financial profitability and avoid becoming a burden to taxpayers. Part of that strategy is to convert the approximately 1/3 of Canadian addresses currently on door to door delivery – about 5 million addresses - to Community Mailbox delivery over the next five years.
“It is important to stress this is not a municipal decision and is in no way impacted by the municipality,” said Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham. “This is a decision of Canada Post and the federal government.”
Canada Post will work closely with municipal staff to choose appropriate and safe locations for the Community Mailboxes.
Canada Post will determine business corridors and maintain door to door delivery to some businesses. Also, there will be no change in delivery to people living in apartment buildings, seniors’ buildings and condominiums who already have mail delivered in the building lobby.
The public has an opportunity to provide feedback through an Online Web tool and mail in survey. Additionally, the public is asked to contact Canada Post’s toll free customer contact centre at 1-844-454-3009 if they have questions or concerns.
