Celebrate TD Canadian Children’s Book Week at your Public Library

May 2, 2016 - Kawartha Lakes Public Library is pleased to celebrate TD Canadian Children’s Book Week from May 7-14, with the theme “40 Years of Great Books”. Book week celebrates 40 years of bringing great Canadian children's books to young readers across the country! During Book Week, the Library is pleased to host children’s author Danika Dinsmore on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:15 pm at the Lindsay branch and Thursday, May 12 at 10:30 am at the Bobcaygeon branch.

This marks the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Children’s Book Centre (CCBC), a national, not-for-profit, member-supported organization, founded in 1976 to promote the reading, writing, and illustrating of Canadian books for young readers.

TD Canadian Children’s Book Week is organized by CCBC in partnership with the Storytellers of Canada, and is made possible through the generous support of the TD Bank Financial Group, The Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, Harper Collins Publishers Ltd., Simon & Schuster Canada, amazon.ca, and Toronto Public Library.

Ms Dinsmore, currently living in British Columbia, is the author of the middle grade fantasy adventure “Faerie Tales From the White Forest” featuring four titles in the series and the upcoming young adult novel Winterspring and Summerfall.

Danika has worked with thousands of children in a variety of creative ways for the past 25 years. Since she can remember, she’s always wanted to teach and tell stories. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980’s and wrote her first book when she was 8 years old.

Whether teaching creative writing, world building, or spokenword performance, Danika brings her quirky sense of adventure into the classroom. Danika is a professional member of Children’s Writers & Illustrators of BC (CWILL BC), Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Canada and the Society for Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI).
