City launches revamped vendor management program
In June the City launched a vendor management program to help improve the way the City does business. Over the summer months a number of business owners, big and small, provided their feedback on the program and have helped to make it better.
As part of the overall feedback the City has launched a new, shorter and more streamlined Online Vendor Management form.
“We very much appreciate all of the feedback we have received and it has helped us to develop a Vendor Management program that will benefit both the City and our vendors,” said Angela Vickery, Corporate Services Manager, Financial Services.
The program is designed to help departments streamline their quotation processes, reduce the risk of injuries by protecting the health and safety of the vendor and City employees and reduce instances of poor performance to increase project quality.
Made up of three components: prequalification; environmental, health and safety; and performance management, the program will ensure all vendors conducting work with the City will be performing to City and provincially legislated and regulated standards. The program will also help vendors and City staff adhere to project timelines, budgets and maintain an appropriate quality of work.
“We will still require vendors interested in working with the City to complete the online form,” said Ashley Wykes, Senior Accountant, Financial Services. “But through the feedback we received from vendors over the summer, we have created a new, streamlined form to work better for vendors and the City.”
Ms. Wykes said through the preferred vendor list, City staff will have a more efficient process for obtaining quotes for goods and services.
Vendors who complete the shortened online form to register will be entered onto the City’s preferred vendor list for a two-year period once they qualify.
Vendors who have already registered with the City will not need to re-register through the new shortened form.
