Community Employment Resource Partnership
As a result of initial discussions about co-ordinated services for those seeking employment supports in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton, a number of local agencies have established the Community Employment Resource Partnership (CERP Kawartha Lakes – Haliburton).
The local CERP is one of three partnerships, with similar CERPs located in Peterborough and Northumberland County. All three are an integral part of the overall strategy of the Integrated Local Labour Market Planning System (ILLMPS), currently being piloted by the Workforce Development Board. The Workforce Development Board, located in Peterborough and serving all four municipalities, was selected as one of seven locations throughout the province for a demonstration project by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MCTU) and the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS).
The objectives, targets and resources of the ILLMPS project are to:
a) Improving awareness and understanding of the integrated system of employment services in place to help employers and job seekers;
b) Further integrating information on employment opportunities and making it more accessible to community members;
c) Establishing employment resource partnerships in the City of Kawartha Lakes/Haliburton area and Northumberland County;
d) Identification and implementation of best practices;
e) Making better use of information and technology to improve the quality and quantity of labour market information available.
The CERP website, www.communityerp.ca, includes links to member agencies as well as employment and training opportunities. Current member of CERP Kawartha Lakes – Haliburton include: Victoria County Career Services, Lindsay Employment Resource Centre, Job Quest, Canadian Hearing Society, Fleming College Job Connect, Community Living Kawartha Lakes, City of Kawartha Lakes Social Services, City of Kawartha Lakes Economic Development, Ontario Disability Support Program Employment Supports and Workforce Development Board.
According to Terri Blair, Leader, Employment Programs, Fleming College “The Community Employment Resource Partnership is a coming together of employment related agencies in the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County. Our purpose is to help co-ordinate services and to explore issues, then share and create solutions relating to employment strategies. By working together effectively, the CERP members can collectively provide the specialized employment services that someone may need as well as being a single point of contact for any industry new to the area.”
CERP Kawartha Lakes – Haliburton will be present at the Victoria Park Armoury in Lindsay on Saturday October 3, 2009 as part of the Kawartha Lakes Accessibility Advisory Committee’s Aware Fair. We invite all members of the public to meet representatives of the partner agencies at the Job Quest and Ontario Disability Support Program booths.
