Everyone invited to Paramedics in the Park event

May 19, 2017 - In celebration of Paramedic Week May 28 - June 3, the Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Service is hosting the popular Paramedics in the Park event on Thursday June 1 at Victoria Park in Lindsay.

Enjoy a barbeque lunch from 10:30am to 3pm which includes a burger, sausage or hot dog meal for $5. All funds raised go to support the Paramedic Memorial Monument in Ottawa, which is in remembrance of those who have given their lives for their service.

Boston Pizza Lindsay is generously donating the food for this event.

"Paramedics in the Park allows us to connect with the community while raising money to salute those who have lost their lives in service to others," comments Paramedic Services Chief Keith Kirkpatrick. "This year marks the 50 year anniversary of the Ambulance Act set by the province which defines response, patient, vehicle, equipment and education requirements that enhance public safety."

Kawartha Lakes Paramedics who have cared for patients that went into cardiac arrest on route will be recognized this year. "This sequence of events, including early defibrillation, encompasses a number of directives and skills from our paramedics and has resulted in lives being saved," comments Chief Kirkpatrick. The recognition presentation will commence at 12pm.

Paramedics in the Park also features a number of displays and demonstrations, in support of the 2017 Paramedic Week theme Always in Service. More than 150 students are expected to take part in interactive learning stations provided by the City's Fire, Paramedic and Police services. The students will be guided through an ambulance tour and also learn about:

  • CPR
  • defibrillators
  • how to call 9-11
  • choking
  • bike and helmet safety
  • concussion and brain safety
  • fire prevention

Members of the public can safely and securely drop off any unused or expired drugs by visiting the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Services booth during Paramedics in the Park. The drugs will then be destroyed by the Police Service.
