Fenelon Falls Library received donation from Pharmasave
February 3, 2010 - The Fenelon Falls Branch of the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library was the grateful recipient of a donation in the amount of $1,500 from Mr. Phong Tan, owner and pharmacist at Pharmasave, a pharmacy located in Fenelon Falls.
Local business man Mr. Tan saw a need for an additional children’s literacy station in the branch and decided to help the Library. Mr. Tan promoted the idea within the community and created a special fund to accept donations. He also topped up the public’s donations with a generous contribution from his business.
There is already one children’s literacy station in the branch but it is in high demand and children often have to wait to use it. The unit, which is not connected to the internet, uses stories and games to help children develop their literacy and computer skills. It will take 6 to 8 weeks to get the new unit purchased and installed.
Library Board member and local councilor Doug Elmslie and Chief Librarian Linda Kent accepted the donation cheque from Phong Tan on February 3rd, 2010 at the branch. Councilor Elmslie described Mr. Tan and his business as “an asset to the community”.
