Fire Service announces new burn permits

June 30, 2016 - Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service reminds residents that the new By Law 2016-110 comes into effect July 1, 2016 and regulates open air burning within the City.

There are two new permits that have been developed. The Agricultural Special Burn Permit is designed to meet the needs of the agricultural community by allowing open air burning on a farm property for fires greater than 3 metres by 3 metres. The Long Term Special Burn Permit may be requested by a person other than the lessee/owner of a farm and may be for an extended time and include more than one burn.

The new bylaw enables better controls for servicing complaints and investigating by law infractions.  There are new fees for many of the burn permits as shown below:

TYPE OF PERMIT                                                                                                            FEE
Regular Burn Permit (up to 1 cubic metre)                                                            $10.00
