Kawartha Lakes Mayor recognizes Summer and Starter Company Mentors

February 13, 2015 - KAWARTHA LAKES – Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham met with several members of the local business community Thursday morning, February 12, to thank them for the advice and support they provide as mentors to the community’s young entrepreneurs.

The recognition luncheon was hosted by the Kawartha Lakes Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre, with various representatives in attendance, including Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure Regional Advisor Phil Wood, Kawartha Lakes Ward 11Councillor Pat O’Reilly, Kawartha Lakes Director of Economic Development Lance Sherk, Diane Steven, manager of KLSBEC, and many others.

“Entrepreneurship is a vital part of the success of our future economy,” said Mr. Sherk. “Entrepreneurship provides the opportunity for our young people to stay, or return to work in Kawartha Lakes.”

Mayor Letham discussed the importance of fostering a culture of entrepreneurship in the community, and reflected on his experience as an entrepreneur himself. An avid supporter of creating opportunities for young people in the community, Mayor Letham agreed to join Summer Company to assist as a mentor to youth entrepreneurs in the program this summer.
