Kawartha Lakes Police Service receives defibrillators
October 26, 2009 - The Kawartha Lakes Police Service is the latest to receive a generous donation of public access defibrillators from The Mikey Network.
The Police Service will receive 5 defibrillators that will be carried in their police cruisers. The addition of these units now means that all emergency vehicles in Lindsay are outfitted with the life-saving devices.
Morty Henkle of The Mikey Network made the announcement for the new defibrillators after Director of Emergency Services Dave Guilbault presented him with a plaque recognizing the significant donations The Mike Network has already made to the City of Kawartha Lakes. He was impressed with the work done on the PAD program and said that Kawartha Lakes is putting other areas “to shame”. The City has placed 88 defibrillators in 66 locations over the past 18 months.
Kawartha Lakes Police Chief John Hagarty was appreciative of the defibrillator donation. “We are very thankful to The Mikey Network for allowing us to provide this life saving ability to our patrol vehicles. As police officers our core service is to serve and protect...I believe now in partnership with our EMS and Fire Services, we have an enhanced opportunity to save lives."
Keith Kirkpatrick, Manager of Kawartha Lakes EMS is pleased with the announcement. “These units, combined with a Hands-Only CPR program will save lives,” he said.
The Mikey Network has purchased public access defibrillators for the Lindsay Golf & Country Club, Sturgeon Lake Golf Club, Fenelon Curling Club, Dr. George Hall School, Kawartha Lakes Boys & Girls Club, Royal Canadian Legion Br. 67 in Lindsay and Royal Canadian Legion Br. 238 in Fenelon Falls.
