Kawartha Lakes Public Library presents local artist John McQuade

April 8, 2016 - Kawartha Lakes Public Library is pleased to present local artist and author John McQuade for an image show and discussion of his work. McQuade is director of Nalanda Miksang Photography and the co-author of Looking and Seeing: Introduction to Contemplative Photography. Join him on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:00 pm in the Meeting Room of the Lindsay Branch Library.

John McQuade grew up and lived in Omemee until attending university and now has returned to his roots. The McQuade family settled in the Omemee area in the 1830s having originally hailed from Ireland.

John began contemplative photography practice in the summer of 1983 and, with Michael Wood, developed the Miksang teachings and path of training. He is the co-author of Looking and Seeing: A Contemplative Photography Sourcebook (available at Kawartha Lakes Public Library) and is the principle Miksang teacher in Toronto. His photographs have been exhibited in Toronto, Vermont and Halifax. He is the curator of the Nalanda Gallery program in Toronto. He studied phenomenology and sociology at Trent University and York University. He holds an M.A. and has taught sociology in universities and community colleges.

A special exhibit of John’s photographs will be mounted at City Hall (26 Francis St, Lindsay) during the month of April and everyone is welcome to view these works.

“When Eye, Mind and World are in the same place at the same time then you
see clearly and your images are vivid,” says McQuade of the Miksang teachings.  “Every strong image begins with a strong perception. Contemplative photography teaches how to see clearly through the practices of Looking and Seeing”.

If you have an interest in photography, art or meditation, this presentation will be of interest to you. To learn more about Mr. McQuade and the Miksang teachings visit www.miksang.org. For further information contact the library at 705-324-9411 extension 1265.
