Kawartha Lakes Public Library Releases 2014 Annual Report

July 17, 2015 - The Kawartha Lakes Public Library Board is pleased to release its first Annual Report on library services to the community, entitled “A Library for the 21st Century”.

“In 2014, patrons made 221,488 visits to our 18 branches, borrowed 459,673 items, asked 31,722 reference questions, and attended 1,548 programs,” reported Chief Librarian David Harvie. “This makes our Library one of the most heavily used municipal services.”

“Increasingly, community members are taking advantage of our rapidly expanding digital offerings,” said Library Board Chair Jamie Morris.  “Approximately a quarter of the Library’s collection is comprised of downloadable e-books and e-audiobooks.”

Approximately 37,122 e-books and audiobooks were downloaded, and over 31,936 online databases searches were conducted in 2014 by patrons.  The introduction of the Library’s new online catalogue offers the ability to search both the Library’s print and digital collections in one search interface.

The 2014 Annual Report also includes lists of the most frequently borrowed book and DVD titles from the collection. The Game of Throne and Downton Abbey were patron favourites among the DVD collection, while Joseph Boyden’s The Orenda and numerous books by author James Patterson were extremely popular.

The 2014 Annual Report is available online in the Library Board section of the Kawartha Lakes Public Library’s website at:
