Lindsay, Fenelon Falls & Bobcaygeon residents asked to leave water running

March 5, 2015 - Due to the extreme cold weather temperatures and increased frost depth, water services may be prone to freezing. Residents who reside on the identified streets noted below may be impacted.

To prevent interruption of water supply, residents on these streets are asked to please ensure a cold water tap (basement, if possible) is turned on at a flow of a diameter of a pencil or 1/4” stream and is left running until further notice. As the weather gets milder, frost can potentially be driven deeper into the ground, so please continue to flush your service line until notification to discontinue is received via a news media release or on the City of Kawartha Lakes website

Residents on these affected streets will be billed on the actual consumption up to the point that they started running their water, and based upon last year’s average daily consumption for the same billing period during the time they were running the water. If residents do not send the City a meter reading, they will be billed on consumption shown on the meter the next time the meter is read.

This program is not available for large water users (typically commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-residential properties)

We are asking residents to register and to submit their meter readings including the necessary details electronically by emailing or by calling Amanda Sheridan Utility Clerk at 705 324 9411 ext 1219. Alternately residents can call the Service Centres.

Residents will be asked to provide the following information when registering their property:

a.         Name

b.         Address

c.         Phone # so we can contact if necessary

d.         Account# (if possible from bill)

e.         The meter reading and the date of the meter reading

f.          The end reading when situation is over and the date

If your line is frozen please call a local plumbing contractor right away as the longer you wait the firmer the ice could set in and cause potential damage.

If you would like more information on dealing with frozen water lines or safeguarding your property please contact the Call Centre at 705-324-9411.
