Lindsay Ops Landfill Site Public Review Committee
The Lindsay Ops Landfill Public Review Committee, or PRC, is a group of interested residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes, like yourself, who want to make a difference in the community. The only qualifications are that you live in the City of Kawartha Lakes (permanently or seasonally), are at least 18 years, and you want to make your community better.
The Lindsay Ops landfill site is located at 51 Wilson Road, approximately 5 minutes north of Lindsay. It is the City of Kawartha Lakes only engineered landfill site and is expected to be in operation for another 20 years. The landfill is located near the Scugog River, and many of the current members of the PRC have a close connection to the waterways in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Other members just want to help make a difference, as noted by the current Chair of the Committee, Paul Tamlin. “I joined the committee because I knew I could not change the past but I can make a difference today and for the future.”
The PRC meets once a month with staff from Solid Waste Services. Although meetings are usually held during the day, the Committee is interested in accommodating the schedules of new members, and dates and times are subject to change. The Committee is consulted on the operations of the site and any new programs the City is considering for the site. It’s a great way to stay informed on what’s happening in the world of waste and recycling. “The PRC is a way for the City to keep in touch with the public’s concerns and opinions regarding waste management and diversion initiatives,” said Andy Boyd, Solid Waste Supervisor for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
