March Break Special Events @ the Lindsay Library

March 5, 2010 - The Lindsay Branch of the City of Kawartha Lake Public Library has scheduled many special events during the March Break for school age children.

Saturday, March 13 at 10:30 am
Begin Spring Planting for your vegetable garden.

Monday, March 15 at 2 pm
Angela Porteous, Public Education Officer, with City of Kawartha Lakes Solid Waste Services, will present “Crawly Composters”.  Explore the world of indoor and outdoor composting through hands-on activities, games and more.  Also meet the “Red Wriggler” – one of the many critters responsible for composting.

Tuesday, March 16 at 2 pm
Kids on the Block
, a troupe of educational puppets, is an outreach program of the Peterborough branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Children will enjoy watching the large-size puppets as Kids on the Block present two plays about some very special children.

Wednesday, March 18 at 2 pm
Gamiing Nature Centre
presents “Fur, Feathers, Scales and Skin”.
Have fun exploring animal body coverings through hands-on investigation.
Learn about the role of body coverings and identify how they can assist an
animal in survival.

Thursday, March 19 at 2 pm and 6:30 pm
Art Creations
is a chance for children age 7 and up to explore the art of quilt making.  A teaching time will be followed by a hands-on project.  Children will create a quilt which will remain at the library as part of the Children’s Services new reading area.  Please register early as enrolment is limited.

Friday, March 20 at 2 pm
Storytelling, A Bit of the Blarney
, features Celtic stories told by local storyteller Suzanne Sholer.

Saturday, March 20 at 10:30 pm
Welcome spring with stories, activities and crafts as we shout Hooray for Spring!!

Saturday, March 20 from 10 am to 12 noon
Spend some time reading aloud to Lexie, a black standard poodle, who is part of the library’s Read to the Dog program.

Recent picture books by Canadian authors will be featured every morning at 10:30 am during the Blue Spruce Reading Program.  Children in Kindergarten and to Grade 2 are invited to listen to the stories, take part in related activities and vote for their favourite story.
