March Break @ your library
February 25, 2010 - March 13th to 20th is March break. If you’re wondering what to do with the kids to keep them entertained, why not plan a trip to your local library? The City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library has a lot of wonderful events planned just for you. Highlights of the week include the following special programs.
Computer workshops for children will be held at most libraries. Registration is required for this program. Call your local library branch for more details.
Gamiing Nature Centre offers two special programs. “Fur, Feathers, Scales and Skin” takes place at the Fenelon Falls Library (887-6300) on Tuesday, March 16 at 11 am and at the Lindsay Library (324-5632) on Wednesday, March 17 at 2 pm. Animal Classification” will be held on Tuesday, March 16 at 3 pm at the Bethany Library (277-2321) and on Wednesday, March 17 at 11 am at the Bobcaygeon Library (738-2088).
Learn about Fire Prevention and Safety and the job of the firefighter from Fire Prevention Officers at the Little Britain (786-2088), Dunsford (703-3037), Burnt River (454-9646) and Coboconk (454-3322) libraries.
Join Suzanne Sholer and friends for an Evening of Storytelling at the Omemee Library (799-5711) on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30 pm. Please come dressed in green and be prepared to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Angela Porteous, Public Education Officer, with City of Kawartha Lakes Solid Waste Services, will present “Crawly Composters” on Monday, March 15 at 2 pm at the Lindsay Library (324-5632) and on Tuesday, March 16 at 2 pm at the Kirkfield Library (438-3331). Explore the world of indoor and outdoor composting through hands-on activities, games and more. Also meet the “Red Wriggler” – one of the many critters responsible for composting.
Kids on the Block, a troupe of educational puppets that is an outreach program of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Peterborough Branch, will be visiting the Lindsay Library (324-5632) on Tuesday, March 16 at 2 pm. Children will be engaged by the large-size puppets as ‘Kids on the Block’ present 2 plays about some very special children.
The Library is pleased to bring Storytime with Bev, from the Ontario Early Years Center, to the Omemee Library on Monday, March 15 at 10:30 am (799-5711) and the Kinmount Library on Thursday, March 18 at 11 am (488-3199). Enjoy the story “Bear Snores On” by Karma Wilson and related activities.
Come dressed in your PJs and enjoy Bedtime stories and crafts on Monday, March 15, Tuesday, March 16 and Wednesday, March17 at 6:30 pm at the Lindsay Library (324-5632) .
The Blue Spruce Reading Program will be presented at the Lindsay Library (324-5632) from Monday, March 15 to Friday, March 19 at 10:30 am. Children will enjoy listening to a selection of 10 recently published Canadian picture books, will participate in related activities, and vote for their favourite title.
Enjoy themed story and craft programs at all library branches. There is something for everyone at the Library during the March Break. Call your local library for information today.
