Mitchells Bridge on target for September completion

May 29, 2015 - Contractors are on schedule to have the Mitchells Bridge rehabilitation project completed by September of this year.

Earlier this week the new steel girders were put in place marking a major milestone in the project.

“Replacing Mitchells Bridge has been a long process and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while the work has been ongoing,” said Juan Rojas, manager of Engineering with the City. “Once completed, having the bridge and road reopened will create a much better traffic flow and assist residents in that area greatly.”

Originally built in 1926, Mitchells Bridge was nearing the end of its service life when a vehicular collision resulted in the bridge being posted as a single 8 tonne limit, a drop from the previous 21 tonne limit.

The project, which has been ongoing for more than four years, will assist residents in the area who have used the bridge on Northline Road north of Fenelon Falls.
