New City program protects vendors, staff and residents

April 24, 2015 - Beginning in June all vendors interested in doing business with the municipality will be required to register with the City as part of a new Vendor Management program.

“The purpose of the program is to help departments streamline their quotation processes, reduce the risk of injuries by protecting the health and safety of vendor and City employees and reduce instances of poor performance to increase project quality,” explained Angela Vickery, Corporate Services Manager, Financial Services.

The program is made up of three components; prequalification; environmental, health and safety; and performance management. The program components will ensure all vendors conducting work with the City will be performing to City and provincially legislated and regulated standards. The program will also help vendors and City staff adhere to project timelines, budgets and maintain an appropriate quality of work.

“The Vendor Management program will affect City staff, vendors and the public,” said Ashley Wykes, Senior Accountant, Financial Services. “Through the preferred vendor list, City staff will have a more efficient process for obtaining quotes for goods and services.”

Ms. Wykes added that as part of the program, vendors will be required to submit their insurance certificates, WSIB clearance certificate, health and safety policy and references at the time of registration, streamlining the quotation process.

“We believe our vendors will benefit greatly from the new program as it will provide a streamlined invitation process and allow vendors to register and qualify to be on the City’s preferred vendor list for a two-year period,” said Ms. Vickery.

As part of the roll-out there will be a series of information sessions for vendors to introduce the program in Lindsay and Bobcaygeon in May.

The Vendor Information sessions will be held on May 5 from 5-7 p.m. in the Victoria Room at City Hall and on May 6 from 5-7 p.m. at the Bobcaygeon Service Center.
