January 10, 2012 - The City of Kawartha Lakes Council is looking for nominations for the Environmental Hero of the Year award. This award would recognize a resident who took the initiative, within 2011, to successfully intervene and counter an environmental threat without expectation of monetary reward.

December 13, 2011 - Kawartha Lakes Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 1701 and Fire Chief Mark Pankhurst participated in the month long “Movember” prostate cancer fundraising and awareness campaign, raising over $1000.
Fire Chief wants everyone to have a fire safe Christmas
December 12, 2011 - Fire Chief Mark Pankhurst wants a quiet Christmas this year. “I’ve been in the fire service for 24 years and every year during the holiday season there has been a significant fire where someone’s Christmas has been destroyed,” he said. “The house, contents, presents…everything is gone and it’s an awful experience. I don’t want that to happen this year, I want everyone to have a fire safe Christmas.”
Rural Transit holiday schedule
December 12, 2011 - Rural Transit will be operating on the regular schedule from December 26 – 30. Rural Route 1A will not be running on Monday, January 2 but will run instead on Wednesday, January 4th. Route 1A services Kinmount, Burnt River, Fenelon Falls, Southview Estates, Cameron and Pleasant View Trailer Park.
