Nominate an Environmental Hero & Youth Hero of the Year

February 19, 2016 - There are individuals and groups throughout Kawartha Lakes who work tirelessly and quietly to benefit our environment or make outstanding environmental contributions without any expectation of reward. The City’s Environmental Advisory Committee wants to recognize local environmental heroes and needs your help.

“We are reaching to all corners of Kawartha Lakes asking people to nominate an Environmental Hero or and Environmental Youth Hero,” explained Pat Warren, Chair of the Kawartha Lakes Environmental Advisory Committee. “We know these people are in our community and their incredible work deserves to be recognized.”

Do you know an elementary or secondary student or group, post-secondary student or group or an individual or group from the Kawartha Lakes that has worked to address a local environmental issue in 2015? Have they made an outstanding environmental contribution within the City? Have they acted successfully to influence change for the benefit of the environment without any expectation of reward? Those are the heroes we want to hear about.

“Our environment is vital to our community, our residents, families, visitors, tourism and most importantly, our future,” said Ms. Warren. “We want to celebrate and applaud the work done in our community and are counting on our community, groups, schools and individuals to recognize the efforts of people they know.”

Nominations for both the Environmental Hero and the new this year, Environmental Youth Hero of the Year Awards must be received by the Environmental Advisory Committee by Monday, March 28.

“We’re really excited to launch the new Environmental Youth Hero of the Year Award,” said Ms. Warren. “This is a great opportunity to recognize our youth, and future leaders, who have gone above and beyond to help our environment. We’re really looking forward to seeing the nominations for this new exciting award.”
