Continued complaints of equipment salespeople soliciting residents
The Water and Wastewater Department has again been receiving calls of concern from residents in regards to persons approaching area homes. These individuals are stating that due to excessive chlorine, the drinking water in the City is unsafe. If granted entry into the home, a “test” is conducted and residents are offered a “free” filtration system which they claim will solve the issue - provided home owners purchase new filters on a monthly basis.
The City would like to inform residents that these individuals are not affiliated with the City. City employees carry identification at all times and do not approach residents to sell equipment of any kind. In addition, the “test” performed does not accurately measure chlorine residuals and there is not an excess of chlorine in the City of Kawartha Lakes’ drinking water. The City continues to follow and surpass strict regulations with regards to drinking water and is committed to providing safe, clean, reliable drinking water to all of its residents, businesses and visitors.
We ask that any home owners approached by these individuals report the incident to the City of Kawartha Lakes Police at 705-324 5252.
