Sanitary & Storm Sewer Flushing Notification

The City of Kawartha Lakes wishes to inform residents and businesses that regular scheduled sanitary & storm sewer main maintenance will be taking place in various areas of Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Bobcaygeon, Omemee, Kings Bay and Coboconk, Collection Systems to remove settled and accumulated material. Work will be undertaken Monday to Friday starting Friday June 23rd, 2017 from 7am to 7pm and will continue until the end of November 2017. Some high traffic areas will be flushed after 7pm to avoid busy traffic and ensure contractor safety.

Please be advised that during this process the contractor (Onsite Sewer Services) will be setting up their apparatus at each manhole in the roadway and releasing pressurized water through the sanitary sewer main pipe to remove any buildup.

A bubbling and/or vacuum effect may be noticed in your drains and toilets due to this maintenance flushing. It is recommended to keep all toilet seats closed and cover any floor drains. Internal plumbing consists of “P” Traps which hold a volume of water to prevent sewer gasses from migrating into a home. During the flushing process, this water could be drawn out of the traps by negative pressure created in the sanitary sewer main. For that reason, it is important to refill all plumbing traps by running the water in your sinks and floor drains after the work is complete.

Please be patient during this preventative maintenance process and understand that it is necessary to eliminate the potential for sanitary sewer main surcharging which could result in damage to property.
