Official Plan for the City of Kawartha Lakes approved
January 17, 2012 - The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing has approved the Official Plan for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The Ministry approved Official Plan contains policies that guide the development of the City of Kawartha Lakes while conserving resources and protecting the environment. Policies are included that protect the City’s important environmental features and functions, and address development in agricultural, hamlet, rural and waterfront areas.
“This approval along with the secondary plans currently underway will stimulate growth and development into the future,” said Mayor Ric McGee. “This is the framework for how Kawartha Lakes will develop over the next number of decades and sets in place a strong vision for community and economic development.”
The Official Plan focuses on the areas of the City located outside of designated urban settlements of Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay, Omemee and Woodville. The detailed policy formation for the City’s five designated urban areas is ongoing under the City’s Secondary Planning Exercise.
The approval follows a ministerial review of the City’s Official Plan that was adopted by Council on September 21, 2010.
Pursuant to the provisions of Section 17(36) of the Planning Act, any individual, corporation or public body who made oral submissions at the public meeting or made written submissions to the City before the Official Plan was adopted by City Council may appeal the final approval of the Official Plan by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to the Ontario Municipal Board by filing a Notice of Appeal setting out written reasons in support of the appeal. Enquiries regarding the Ministerial approval of the Official Plan may be directed to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Municipal Services Office – East, 8 Estate Lane, Rockwood House, Kingston, Ontario K7M 9A8.
