Silver Birch Book Beat
January 22, 2010 - The Silver Birch Award, part of the Ontario Library Association’s Forest of Reading program, has been exciting Ontario students for sixteen years. The Lindsay Branch of the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library is pleased to offer this popular program again in 2010.
The Silver Birch Award program includes Canadian books selected by professionals from school and public libraries across the province in 3 different lists. Titles are chosen to appeal to a range of interests and reading abilities. ‘Express titles’, a mixture of fiction and nonfiction, are aimed at children in grade 3 and 4 while ‘fiction titles’ and ‘non-fiction titles’ are for readers in grades 5 and 6. Participants must read a minimum of 5 books in any given list in order to qualify to vote for their favourite.
The Silver Birch Book Beat Club, open to students in grades 3 to 6, will meet every Wednesday at 4:15 from February 10 to April 21 at the Lindsay Library. Students will enjoy activities and crafts, exchange books, participate in great book related discussions and vote for their favourite book on the province-wide Voting Day.
If you love reading, then this club is for you. For more information or to register please call the Lindsay Library at 324-9411 ext 1332.
