Take part in the Mayor’s Writing Contest at your library

July 26, 2016 - Kawartha Lakes Library, in partnership with the Dromoland Indie Authors Festival presents the first year of the Mayor’s Writing Contest.

As one of the sponsors of the Indie Author Festival, Kawartha Lakes Public Library is pleased to participate in this celebration of the written word. The Library also wants to encourage aspiring writers from within the community. The theme of the contest is Kawartha Lakes – Our Community.

Entries may be in any format (essay, short story or poem) with a maximum of 500 words for age category up to 15 years and 1500 words for age category 16 years and older.  Entries must never have been published, self-published, or published on any website, blog or forum.

Winning entries will be announced by Mayor Andy Letham during the festival and prizes will be awarded. For a complete list of prizes and sponsors visit the Festival website at

Contest registration form and rules are available at all Kawartha Lakes Library branches, on the library website at and on the Indie Authors Festival website at  Entries may be dropped off at any Kawartha Lakes Library branch and must be received by August 15 prior to the library closing.
