Volunteer opportunity at City Hall for beginner camera operators
“Broadcasting our Council meetings is an important tool in inviting the community into the democratic process,” explained Mayor Andy Letham. “Having volunteers assist with operating the equipment ensures that residents who aren’t able to attend Council meetings in person are still able to see the proceedings.”
Both regular and special Council meetings are broadcast and volunteers are required to operate multiple cameras from a single control panel located within Council Chambers.
“This is a great opportunity for someone interested in digital media, broadcasting or municipal politics,” said Ann Rooth, Deputy Clerk of Council Services. “The bulk of the meetings take place in the afternoons so it would be a commitment of one or two afternoons per month depending on the number of volunteers.”
Training will be provided on the equipment and no previous experience is necessary. The position qualifies for high school volunteer hours.
