WIFI now available at several Kawartha Lakes Public Library branches
WIFI equipment has been upgraded in the Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Coboconk and Fenelon Falls branches, and installed in Bethany, Dunsford, Kinmount, Kirkfield, Little Britain, Norland, Oakwood and Woodville. CableCable, a local Internet Service Provider, is providing high speed broadband connections to most locations through their fibre network.
“Providing public access wireless Internet is considered a basic library service in the 21st Century,” comments Chief Librarian and CEO David Harvie. “If patrons don’t have internet connectivity at home, they can bring their e-devices into their neighbourhood branch to access our digital collection of approximately 52,000 downloadable e-books and 13,500 audiobooks.”
Funds provided through a provincial grant from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Culture and Sport via the Southern Ontario Library Service financed the purchase of the WIFI equipment and ongoing connectivity costs.
“Your public library continues to be a gateway to a wealth of resources on the Internet. All you need is a library card,” said Mr. Harvie.
