Aware Fair 2009

— filed under:

“Accessibility for all!” remains the motto for Lindsay’s Annual Aware Fair on October 3rd, an information and fun-filled day of  activities and experiences spotlighting ways that communities can remove barriers faced by people with disabilities.

In this second year, the full day’s activities – presented by the Kawartha Lakes Accessibility Advisory Committee – will be held at the Victoria Park Armoury, with, weather permitting, some of the activities in the adjacent park.

Admission is free to this public information event, which will include the fun fair: interactive virtual displays and activities highlighting various visible and invisible challenges, and a scooter rodeo. Featured will be a goods and services trades fair, with representation by dozens of agencies and businesses catering to individuals with disabilities, including the sale of accessibility-related merchandise. Children will also enjoy a variety of activities just for them, for example story reading/telling; a stage play, popcorn and cotton candy, and much more.

Last year the fair was opened by the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, former TV journalist, and champion for disability issues on many fronts and for many years. He has been invited to open the Fair this year as well. Sharing the spotlight will be local individuals and businesses who will be honoured for their significant efforts to level the playing field for those with disabilities by removing barriers that they face.
