Animal Control
Along with investigating and enforcing By-Laws, the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are responsible for picking up and impounding stray dogs and investigating dog bites/attacks, violations of the Pit-bull legislation.
Several kennels are used throughout the City to house stray dogs until such time that the owner comes forward (within 5 business days) or the dog is adopted to a new home. If you have lost your dog report it to the Municipal Law Enforcement Office right away to increase the chances of your dog returning home.
Dogs are required to be licenced in The City of Kawartha Lakes for the current calendar year (January 1st to December 31st). Licences can be purchased at any of the Municipal Service Centres or through the mail. If you have found a stray dog, please report it to the Municipal Law Enforcement Office as soon as possible to increase the chances of dog being reunited with its owners.
For urgent calls (dog attacks, stray dogs) Officers are available after-hours Monday-Friday 4:30pm-10:00pm and Saturday & Sunday 8:00am-4:00pm and can be reached by calling (705) 928-3054 and leaving a message. Please note that our office does not respond to anonymous complaints.
