Seasonal Load Restrictions and Road Closures
Many gravel roads are placed under a 5 tonnes-per-axle load restriction in the spring of the year. This is to help protect the integrity of the road when it is in a particularly sensitive state as the ground frost thaws. Signs are erected to notify road users of this restriction. Below is the type of sign we use for this purpose, which is from Book 5 of the Ontario Traffic Manual.![]()
