NWT Construction Update #3 - Sept 16th 2011

Contract 3 Work is expected to get underway beginning next week. This work comprises the installation of a forcemain from the future Jennings Creek Sewage Pumping Station, easterly to the northern section of St Joseph Road and then under St. Joseph Rd using ‘trenchless technology’ to east of Kirkconnel, then a short section of open cut installation to Angeline Street, and open cut installation north along Angeline Street to a location just south  of the Jennings Creek bridge.

The ‘trenchless technology’ portion requires a ‘pull pit’ in the middle of St. Joseph Road a short distance from Angeline Street, that may be in place for a month until both the trenchless portion is completely installed.

Residential access will be diverted to Flavelle Crescent for the duration of this portion of the work.

The contractors doing the work are experienced and conversant with the challenges to be encountered, maintaining traffic flow, and minimizing inconvenience to the public

Contract 2 Work is advancing to the stage where Lindsay Street North between the Access to the Lindsay Street North Landfill site and the north end requires closure next Tuesday to vehicles and pedestrians for their own safety due to the movement of earth scrapers on the road allowance and the beginning of open cut pipe installation in the area of the Lindsay Street North Sewage Pumping station.

In addition Victoria Rail Trail users are cautioned that during working hours earth movers and other construction equipment will be crossing the Victoria Rail Trail – please respect the traffic control person’s instructions.  During the actual pipe crossing of the Victoria Rail Trail complete closure of a short duration will be required.
