Drop in the Bucket - Paint Reuse Program

A shed, a bedroom, a porch? Do you have a small project in need of paint?

We have a solution for you!

The City of Kawartha Lakes’ Drop in the Bucket Paint Reuse Program keeps usable paints and stains from being disposed of unnecessarily by making them available to residents for free!

Residents will be able to take leftover paint and stains to either the Fenelon Landfill or Lindsay Ops  Landfill (Household Hazardous Waste Depot) from May 1 to October 15. Residents looking for small amounts of paint or stains will be able to take any leftover paint from either locations home with them once the Landfill attendant has given their approval.

For those taking paint:

  • Paint is offered as a free product exchange for residential use only.
  • A maximum 5 cans can be taken by a resident at any one time.
  • The City has not inspected the paint and makes no representation or warranty as to the quality, nature or quantity of the product.
  • Any damage to property or person resulting from the transport or use of paint removed from this facility is not the responsibility of the City of Kawartha Lakes.
  • The product may be returned to a City of Kawartha Lakes HHW Depot if the paint is suspected to have been altered in any way or if the contents are not represented by the original label.

For those dropping off paint:

  • No aerosols, paint pens, craft paint or pails of paint
  • Original gallon or quart cans only (no makeshift containers
  • Cans must be at least ½ full and in good condition
  • Original labels must be attached with the colour clearly displayed
  • A maximum 5 cans can be taken by a resident at any one time.

The “Drop in the Bucket” Paint Reuse Program is a project of the City of Kawartha Lakes Waste Management division. The goal of the initiative is to measure the interest of residents in making use of viable, leftover paint as a way of reducing unnecessary disposal.
