Volunteers using their own vehicles – over 200 strong – transport clients located throughout the City to both medical appointments and social engagements. Also, we operate regular passenger vans, hand-vans and a stretcher van for those needing a little extra assistance.
The handi-van is primarily for wheelchair clients while the non-emergency stretcher van has capacity to transport both stretcher and wheelchair clients. Both the handi-van and non-emergency stretcher van receive funding support from the City of Kawartha Lakes as well as from other service clubs and the United Way. For all transportation services, there is a client contribution or fee which helps to keep the service viable. It is based a per km charge. All clients on income supplement programs are eligible for subsidy consideration.
